Registration
General registration for Winter Sessions begins on Oct. 29, though online registration follows the spring registration calendar. Find your status below for details on how to register.
How to register
Current students
Current VCU students can register for a Winter Sessions course through eServices on or after their spring advance registration date or by emailing rar@vcu.edu from your VCU email account beginning on October 29. Students have until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 27 to register for an Intersession course. Emailed registration requests should contain your full name, V-number, course subject (e.g., SOCY101) and CRN (e.g., 12345).
Nondegree-seeking students
Nondegree-seeking students must first apply for nondegree admissions through the online application. The deadline for submitting the application is Dec. 9, 2024. If you have questions about this process, contact ugrad@vcu.edu or (804) 828-1550.
Once enrolled, you will need to obtain your VCU eID. Your eID will allow you to register for classes through eServices. You can also use your VCU email account to email rar@vcu.edu to register. Emails should contain your full name, V-number, course subject (e.g., SOCY101) and CRN (e.g., 12345).
You can email rar@vcu.edu if you need help with registration before Dec. 20. After Dec. 20, email summer@vcu.edu for assistance.
Overrides
Overrides are processed at Records and Registration. To request an override for class size or prerequisite restrictions, contact the course instructor or academic department. The Office of Summer Studies and Special Programs cannot approve overrides.
Registration for audit
To audit a course during Winter Sessions, students must email Records and Registration at rar@vcu.edu by Dec. 20, 2024, or summer@vcu.edu by Dec. 27 for Intersession. Changes from credit to audit are not allowed after Dec. 27 for Intersession classes. Students who audit pay regular tuition and fees, are subject to attendance regulations, and may be subject to other course requirements.
Course load
Each Intersession course is designed to give one semester’s worth of work. Due to the nature and time structure of the courses, students may only take one class during Intersession. Audited courses are counted as part of the course load. The Office of Summer Studies and Special Programs will not grant overrides to take multiple classes.
Intersession classes are intensive and demanding. Students experiencing academic difficulty should consider this advisory carefully before registering.
Enrollment changes
Add/drop
For Intersession, the add/drop deadline is 11:59 p.m. on the first day of class, Dec. 27, 2024. Because these deadlines are strictly observed and because there are no partial refunds for Intersession, students must add or drop classes before the deadline. Adds or drops may be made through eServices or by emailing rar@vcu.edu. If the request is being made after Dec. 20, email summer@vcu.edu before the respective add/drop deadline.
Withdrawal
After the last day to add/drop a class, students may withdraw from a class through eServices.
The last day to withdraw from Intersession is Monday, Jan. 2, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. There are no refunds for withdrawals during Intersession; the full class cost will remain on the bill.
Students who withdraw receive a grade of “W” on their academic records. Failure to withdraw by the established deadlines may result in a failing grade.
Pass/Fail
Students may select the pass/fail option for eligible courses no later than the last day to withdraw from a course. Go to the Pass/Fail page for more details.
Advising
Students are encouraged to speak with an advisor prior to registration. Continuing degree-seeking students are assigned advisors by their schools and departments. All first-year, undeclared, pre-health professions and nondegree-seeking students are advised through University Academic Advising.
